On October 8th, 2011, CKC United gathered to remember a friend and founding member who continues to inspire us today. F. Marshall Thompson’s life was celebrated by all at the 2nd Biennial FMT Pig Roast.
From high noon through late night, we witnessed amazing music from BioDiesel, Josati, Tommy B. and Colin Stodd, DJ Greg D., Tek Subport, A. Dubs (F5F), Horizon Wireless, Mantis, Funkbot and DJ Spacecase.
We had an amazing time, and we want to thank everyone who was there and helped us enjoy the beautiful weather.
The best part of it all is that proceeds raised will be donated to our current beneficiary, Little Kids Rock. Thank you for your support!

Also, a very special thanks to Umbris (manager) and Club Orpheus for creating a euphoric club scene using lasers and having a projector that illuminated various film images.

On October 29, 2010, CKC United presented a $10,000 donation to the Quality of Life Fund at the Kimmel Cancer Center in Philadelphia, PA. This event was the finale for our organization’s Rock the Ribbon campaign and the money was donated in loving memory of Marshall Thompson. The whole experience has been amazing, and we are thrilled that our first campaign was a huge success.
The Quality of Life Fund fills gaps which could present barriers to cancer patients completing their treatment. The program is administered by Oncology Social Workers who assess patient’s needs and $300 grants are distributed to patients and families demonstrating need.
We met with many of the staff working at the Kimmel Cancer Center. They welcomed us with open arms and were thrilled with our significant donation.
Dr. Richard G. Pestell, Director of KCC, gave a wonderful speech highlighting the positive effects our donation will have on cancer patients receiving treatment. He was noticeably impressed with our organization and spoke from the heart about how groups like ours can have a positive impact on the community. He also mentioned how the fact that we as young adults are stepping up to the plate to give back really gives him hope for future generations. He was inspired that a group of friends like us got together and started a non-profit organization, taking initiative to do more for those in need and find ways to give back at a young age.
Mrs. Anita Matthews, Nya’s mother, gave another beautifully inspiring speech. No one can forget her speech at Rock the Ribbon, CKC United’s first ever black tie fundraiser, last March. She did it again and we cannot thank her enough for all of her kind words and praise.
Ms. Joy Soleiman, Clinical Administrator for the Quality of Life Fund, accepted our donation and spoke about the benefits the funds will have on patients and families receiving treatment at the Kimmel Cancer Center.
We want to thank Mrs. Connie Barry, Jenny’s mom, for donating a beautiful handmade pink ribbon quilt. KCC was so gracious and excited to give the quilt to a family affected by breast cancer.
Stay tuned to CKCUnited.org as we are preparing to announce our next campaign soon.
Our Rock the Ribbon campaign was a huge success, and rolling off the heels of that effort we will be announcing our new campaign on December 4th, 2010! Dance the night away to The Twitch Effect, Tek SubPort, Lock Danan, and Marmoset, while knowing that we are all gettin' down for the next great cause!!

On the weekend of August 13-15, 2010, CKC United had a booth at Muddy River Jam Festival in Woodstown, NJ. From start to finish, the festival was filled with great music, amazing people, and fun times. What a great way to wind down the festival season.
This was the first time that CKCU appeared at Muddy River Jam Festival. We would especially like to thank George Ewing and MRJF for making us feel welcome. We met a lot of new faces, and received some generous donations.
We would also like to give a very special thanks to The Disco Biscuits for donating 2 tickets to their upcoming show, September 10, 2010 in Holyoke, Massachusetts. Congratulations to our winner, Scott Conner!
Also, thanks goes out to Name Brand Glass for donating some intricate art work. Amanda Tatter was the lucky prize winner!
We look forward to attending Muddy River Jam festival next year, and we hope that you all will too!
On August 24, 2010 CKC United hosted an event slightly different from our usual music centered affairs.
On this particularly beautiful Saturday, about 35 of us set out in canoes and kayaks down the Brandywine River in Chester County Pennsylvania.
One of our newest supporters, Brian Senft said “This event was absolutely fantastic! I got to meet fun and exciting people while canoeing down the beautiful Brandywine River. And best of all, the proceeds went to the Kimmel Cancer Center.”
Special thanks to CKCU member Alicia Lyons and Brandywine Outfitters for hosting Canoe for a Cause and generously donating half of every ticket sold to help us further our campaign for breast cancer.
The event was so much fun and such a hit that we will be planning another trip in the future!
Also, a special thanks to Brian Senft for putting together a video of the event.
CKCU's return to the annual Starscape festival in Baltimore this past June was a successful and spectacularly fun-filled day for everyone! We had a stream of old and new friends sporting pink ribbons at our booth, promoting our Rock The Ribbon campaign long through the night and into the early morning. A big thank you goes out to the guys at Meatcamp Productions for donating two weekend passes to Camp Bisco 9 for our raffle. Starr Brown was our lucky winner! Thanks to Ultraworld and all of our supporters.
CKC United’s first ever black tie fundraiser, Rock the Ribbon, was held at The Regal Ballroom in Philadelphia, PA on March 27, 2010. Our guests were dressed to impress in dramatic evening gowns and tuxedos in every possible color and style. Tons of supporters turned out to have fun for a good cause.
Founded in 2009, CKC United is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that raises funds and awareness for organizations and charities by bringing people and music together. CKCU chose to support breast cancer at its first event largely due to our founder's personal connection to a survivor of the disease. All proceeds raised will be donated to the Kimmel Cancer Center. http://www.kcc.tju.edu/
As the crowd arrived, Beam and Deem, from Philadelphia, greeted everyone with a phenomenal set that got the evening off to a great start.
Our Mistress of Ceremonies Ms. Lindsay Trevaskis, then began the program, and introduced Mr. Aaron Hinson who welcomed everyone to Rock the Ribbon. CKC United’s President and Founder, Ms. Nya Matthews then spoke about our amazing guest speaker, and also her mother, Mrs. Anita Matthews. Mrs. Matthews is a seven year breast cancer survivor. She is a source of hope and inspiration, and CKC United was honored to have her talk about her journey with our friends, families, and supporters. The crowd was moved, both laughing and crying as Mrs. Matthews shared her story and rocked her pink feather boa.
Following the speakers, our headlining performance featured two sets by Brothers Past, also from Philadelphia. All clad in full tuxedos, BP threw down a fantastic show. Everyone liked it so much that an official recording of the show is now available. http://downlow.brotherspast.com/album/rock-the-ribbon-download-for-charity
After Rock the Ribbon drew to a close, our guests moved on to a truly ragetastic after party late into the night with Future Rock and Sonkin. The official after party was a sold out show, and everyone there kept the party going all night long.
CKCU would especially like to thank all of the artists who volunteered to play the event. The evening would not have been as successful as it was without the musicians’ generosity. These incredible people donated their time and talent all in the name of charity.
Rock the Ribbon held a silent auction, and we would like to thank everyone who donated items for bidding. Prizes included a signed Eagles Football, Wine Tasting for 20, an Under Armour breast cancer awareness package, Trollbeads Breast Cancer Support Bracelet, and a hand crafted shawl designed by our own Ms. Erin Corey, just to name a few.
Thank you to all of the guests of Rock the Ribbon and the individuals and businesses who have helped us along the way. Without the combined support of these amazing people Rock the Ribbon could not have happened. It was truly a night to remember for the rest of our lives.
Please visit www.ckcunited.org to learn more about CKC United, Rock the Ribbon, Kimmel Cancer Center, upcoming events, our supporters and contributors, and to read all about Mrs. Matthews incredible journey.
Earlier this year, BROTHERS PAST performed at Rock the Ribbon, a charity event organized by CKC United to raise money for breast cancer patients of the Kimmel Cancer Center in Philadelphia, PA. If you were in attendance, you know just what a magical night it was. So we're making a good chunk of the show available to the public, and hoping to raise some additional money for CKC United in the process. A soundboard recording is now available for a minimum charity donation of $5. If you can give more, please do. This is a great cause and well worth supporting. All of the money generated by these downloads will go directly to CKC United. Help us Rock the Ribbon throughout 2010!

CKC United hosted The Official Pre-Brothers Past Happy Hour on Saturday, February 20, 2010, at Muggsy's Mug House in Baltimore, MD.
The happy hour was a huge success and featured the great music of our good friends Sonic Spank (Ian McGuire and Ben Karp). CKC United would like to thank Ian and Ben for taking the time out of their busy schedules to help host such an amazing evening! We would also like to thank Stephanie Russell, up and coming cosmetologist and close friend of CKCU, for her donation of a make-over to the winner of the raffle!
After partying with Sonic Spank, guests headed over to The 8x10 Club, located just blocks away from Muggsy’s for Brothers Past. BP threw down another legendary performance and made everyone even more excited for Rock the Ribbon, CKCU’s black-tie affair, which will be headlined by Brothers Past on March 27, 2010.
All proceeds from The Official Pre-Brothers Past Happy Hour will benefit CKC United's campaign to aid those families affected by breast cancer.
On Saturday, January 23, 2010, Tierney’s Tavern in Montclair, NJ hosted a very exciting event brought to you by CKC United. A Night of Ham and Whiskey was a HUGE success. CKCU’s Director of Fundraising, Hayley Wickins, went above and beyond to make this evening special for everyone who attended.
Two amazing bands donated their time: Hamstrung and Streams of Whiskey.
Hamstrung is a philanthropic group who play music to raise money for various causes. The lead singer Daphna showed off incredible vocals by courageously covering Led Zeppelin and Alanis Morrisette, it was awesome! Following Hamstrung, a Shane MacGowan/ The Pogues tribute band, Streams of Whiskey threw it down Irish style. During the show a few members from the audience joined the band onstage for a wonderful rendition of “A Man You Don’t Meet Everyday”.
On December 26, 2009 our friends at Fortune5Fifty put on The Electronic Snowball (part deux). It was a night dedicated to music, art, and charity. The 13th floor of the Belevedere Hotel was loaded with 3 stages of music, live painters, and amazing views of The Charm City skyline.
Future Rock, Damn Wrong (feat. Ian McGuire), Segway, Marmoset, B. Cos (just to name a few) graced the stages of the elegant ballrooms of the hotel. Best yet, a portion of the proceeds was donated to CKC United!
We have hosted our first official event, The Marshall Thompson Pig Roast. It was held on October 10, 2009 and headed by Brian Johnston, our Director of Promotions. Brian worked tirelessly with the help of volunteers and members to make this event a total success.
